Singers That Deliver In The Studio!

March 19, 2010  //  Posted by: admin  //  Category: Singer

Singers that truly deliver in the studio are a breed apart. Let’s face it, not everyone can do it, and if they could, I wouldn’t be wasting time writing this article. And as a former talent booking agent with the William Morris Agency and professional singer, singing on many name brand spots like FOX TV, UPN Station ID’s, O’Charley’s and a host of others, I can tell you that singer’s who deliver in the studio, really can make the big bucks and create a real niche in the market for themselves.

Singing talent is a commodity just like any other line of work, but like a few select fields, the talent pool for individuals who can really deliver is somewhat limited. Starting with that premise knowing that many of you reading this article are most likely interested in studio work and singing in commercials, I will try and promote a few concepts that have helped me through the years and hopefully will help you as well.

Always remember the old adage that those who try hard are usually the luckier ones in life – not always, but because they are out there trying in whatever line of work it is and because they have a multitude of Fishing reels in the water, they usually end up with the bigger catch. Your fishing reel is going to obviously be your singing reel. What does your singing reel sound like that is your business card and aimed at trying to get you established as a session singer? It better be good – not the “I just cranked this out with a few riffs off a keyboard into a computer” good, but one that really facilitates the strengths of your voice and minimizes your weaknesses. Let’s face it, we all have some singing weaknesses to a certain degree or other. And you will find that you are usually called on for studio work where you shine and where your strengths prevail. At ReelMusician.com, we strive to always look at each singer and create custom jingle singer reels based upon the singers own unique set of singing characteristics – If you have any questions at all on your jingle reel, don’t hesitate to contact ReelMusician .com for an honest evaluation. But just remember to have an incredible sounding reel that truly sets your voice and vocal accomplishments out from the rest.

Let’s look at some various factors involved in your career. How much time are you currently putting into practice, vocal coaching, etc? I will suggest to you that you ought to be putting in at least 30 – 45 min’s a day minimum and this can be done in the shower, car, or in a vacant room free of distractions. You want to maximize your strengths and figure out where your weaknesses are. This is critical. I will also tell you that finding a good vocal coach, at least one that truly understands commercial singing and not just the theory they’ve been taught and continue to teach, will be hard. Most vocal coaches stress breathing exercises, posture and so forth, and that’s great, but I will tell you that many of the best singers that I have come across, break all of the golden singing rules and make a great living. I’m not suggesting that there are not better breathing patterns than others, nor will I negate a well postured singer, but coaches who truly teach the nuts and bolts of studio and session singing and not from a textbook, are extremely rare. Make sure you have a well informed and current vocal coach. For any questions regarding vocal coaching or obtaining a good vocal coach, you may contact the author.

Your next step in you journey to becoming a successful jingle and commercial singer is going to be your relational connection with folks already established in the industry and your ability to put your incredible sounding demo in the hands of producers. You are going to want to start out by figuring out who the main players are in your area in terms of studio singers and contact those that look like you are not going to be in direct competition. You wouldn’t want to be helping someone who might be taking your studio work away and neither will they. I will tell you that singers in general, like to help up and coming singers in the field and investing time in relationships with key session singers will be rewarding with your singing success.

Following up with jingle houses, industrial music houses and studio engineers and producers will take a little investigation, but the conversations you have with session singers will undoubtedly have already given you more than enough names and companies to send your demo reel off to. Your reel ought to have your name, telephone number, year and season of the creation of your demo on virtually any thing that is sent out to producers. Your CD better have this in bright bold colorful letters on the front, the inside jacket and the actual CD. I’ve mentioned it before, but you are really better off sending a a hard copy CD rather than mp3, even though there is no cost associated with email, because 1) you don’t have permission to send via email and 2) it helps to actually see your name and reel, which by the way, can go into their car for review on their way home from work and an mp3 can not without burning a CD of it. If you are tired and extremely busy, are you really going to waste your time on someone you don’t know has clue or not about delivering the singing goods – probably not and neither will they most likely. Don’t email your demo as of yet. I would wait until you have established a relationship with the producer and submit follow up pieces if they ask for it.

I’ve mentioned this before, but having a second follow up reel can be a great boost for singing work and re-establishing your name by once again having your CD cross their desk one more time. This is great for a producer who almost called you for a singing session, but for whatever reason didn’t, and for the producer who somehow lost your CD and never really gave it a listen – In either case, it’s a great idea. I wish you all the best of luck and look forward to hearing about your singing success!

5 Affiliate Marketing Facts of Life

February 03, 2010  //  Posted by: admin  //  Category: Learn how to make your own clothes

Affiliate marketing (AM) is fast becoming a major trend in
online business. With the internet still in its adolescent
years, it has already established itself as an extremely viable
career opportunity, bridging the advertising gap for companies,
while providing much sought-after work at home revenue.

With the boom in affiliate marketing, however, there is a
growing wave of new marketers that become easily discouraged
when the initial hype wears off and they don’t understand what
to expect in the business. For those just entering the arena,
here are a few Facts Of Life about Affiliate Marketing:

1) YOU WILL HAVE TO INVEST SOME MONEY Affiliate marketing being
a hybrid of the independent contractor & the self-employed small
business owner, it is inevitable that some money be invested.
While a contractor might earn a base pay + commission, they also
have little or no control over product, promotion or price. And,
while a self-employed owner controls all these, they also pay
all the bills.

But an AM is neither. They don’t control price nor, once they
sign up, product. But they do control promotion. And, unlike a
self-employed worker, they bear only a fraction of the costs.
The advertising fraction.

So, the bad news is affiliate marketers do have to invest some
money, at some point, even in the best programs or scenerios.
But this has also become a growing trend in all sales positions,
as well as positions in all industries. Many positions include a
certain amount of investment. Any job that requires a uniform,
for example, means investing in special clothes. Plus most
realtors must pay for their own advertising.

The good news is that, unlike other sales positions (but similar
to small business), the AM controls that cost because they
decide on which advertisements to invest.

The best news is that many companies, like Plug-in-Profits
(http://trackermo.com/pips.html), now offer great affiliate
support and will guide the new AM until they understand the
business and can stand on their own two feet.

2) YOU WILL HAVE TO INVEST SOME TIME Affiliate marketing works
on the slide-rule effect. That is, the more effort the AM
invests, the richer the dividends. And, like a microcosm of a
career, the AM works their tail off in the beginning– then
works less and less as their sales build. But this can be
measured in months, rather than years (thus, the mirocosm).

Still, many enter the AM arena thinking all they have to do is
sign up as an affiliate, then sit back and reap the rewards. And
that’s just when they should be getting busy. The rewards will
come, but not until they’ve put in their time.

The bad news here is to expect to eat, drink and sleep
marketing– at first.

The good news is that, according to experts in the field, an
affiliate can expect to see a return on their investment within
the first 3-9 months, depending on how much time they spend at
it.

3) YOU WILL GET BURNED ONCE OR TWICE It’s inevitable. Either by
paying astronomical fees for hosting, for leads or for some
other service (not to mention, the existence of scams), it
happens. That’s why “expert” and “experience” have the same root
word. It takes experience to know what’s going on, how to spot a
scam, and to know a good opportunity when it arrives.

The good news is, experience is the best teacher of all. And a
new AM will soon learn from their mistakes.

4) YOU WILL HAVE TO UPDATE YOURSELF The internet has been called
the most fluid industry ever. That’s a poetic way of saying it
changes faster and more often than a body of water. Engineers
call it expotential growth, though it’s more reminiscent of
growth on a cellular level: Rather like a baby starting as two
single cells and, in nine short months, becoming a fully formed
infant. Or, like a pyramid scheme that really works!

Whatever the analogy, the point is the internet is constantly,
incessantly, (sometimes annoyingly) changing. What was vital two
years ago (SE placement, keywords, Pay-Per-Click), is now
becoming passe, replaced by new types of more effective
marketing techniques (PowerLinking, Opt-in lists, pay-per-buy).

All of which leads to–

5) YOU MUST BE PRO-ACTIVE To keep the revenues up, AMs must find
good resources to monitor the business. Newsletters, forums and
affiliate resource pages all become vital to watching the latest
trends. They are filled with the latest information, the latest
ideas and the newest concepts in advertising.

Also, in the case of the AM with their own website, that must be
updated occasionally, too, while the affiliate landing page is
kept up by the company. But when an AM opts for their own page,
they must be aware that every few months or years, a new
enhancement takes off. Right now, the latest is audio and or
animated spokespeople.

Once an affiliate marketer arms themself with these facts of
life, they have a very good chance of succeeding in this new
arena.–mo

Money Can Corrupt A Good Person

A leprechaun frolicked from under the magnificent rainbow that caressed the once heavily laden rain soaked valley. A pot of gold lay beneath his feet and a smile paraded from his lips as a man tried with all of his might to catch the lively elf. His pursuit was quickly thwarted with the disappearance of the green man and the gold he guarded.

So many people are easy targets to con artists who prey upon good and honest people. Victims are hard working people who toil and slave to build a nest egg for the rainy days of life. People who fight to get ahead, but often times fall prey to scams and opportunities that don’t exist.

People are deceived by credit card companies that convince them that they can have a new tool, a new piece of furniture, the new appliance, or something so necessary as the plumbing repaired that is leaking under the kitchen sink. Companies that exploit those who don’t understand how interest expands and accumulates making a person pay up to three times the price for an item they may not really need.

Recently I moved a debt on a credit card over to a non-interest card for a year. When I did this I had no knowledge as to how the plan worked so I asked a lot of questions to the person who was helping me with this task. She explained that there was no interest for a year on the transfer, but if I used the credit card again towards any purchases then I would have to pay interest.

Well that sounded right until she made one final statement. When I use the card for another purchase and I make a payment, then my payment goes towards the non-interest transfer. In other words I would not be able to pay off the interest credit until I had paid off the interest-free transfer first.

Suddenly a revelation came to my mind and I stated, if that’s the case, I will put this card up and not use it again until the transfer was paid. The woman on the other end of the phone realized that she had just revealed a secret used by the credit card companies. She was shocked on how quickly I comprehended what she said and she became very quiet.

People who are wise financially know how to trick people who are using credit to get ahead. They set snares to trap those who think that credit is a way to have the things that you want now. People who don’t understand, become easily ensnared with too much debt.

Recently I took out a mortgage on my home. When I signed the papers, she explained that it would be best if I paid as much as possible the first few years over and above my payment, because it would solely go towards the principle of the loan. The principle was the original loan amount. The creditor has the right to take their interest first while paying the principle last. In other words very little of my monthly payment would go towards the real amount for my loan unless I paid extra at the beginning of the loan.

I was amazed at how the rich can rob honest, hard working people in the name of a loan. They have all the power and the intellect to pilfer and plunder those who have to use credit in order to have a home to live in.

Luke 16: 8, “As a result the master of this dishonest manager praised him for doing such a shrewd thing; because the people of this world are much more shrewd in handling their affairs than the people who belong to the light.”

Every where I turn, I find money hungry people inventing schemes to take money from the poor and give it to the rich. Even our government has gotten into the act through the state funded lottery. People have been fooled into believing they can win money without working for it.

Luke 12: 2-5, “Whatever is covered up will be uncovered, and every secret will be made known. So then, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in broad daylight, and whatever you have whispered in private in a closed room will be shouted from the housetops.
I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot afterward do anything worse. I will show you whom to fear: fear God, who, after killing, has the authority to throw into hell. Believe me, he is the one you must fear!”

Creditors, people in government, friends, loved ones, beware that anything you do that hurts another human being will be seen by God and you will be judged for the pain you inflicted through charging excessive interest on loans. God sees everything and His judgment is final!

I saw a man in ragged clothes who looked like he hadn’t eaten for a while. He unfolded a crumbled dollar bill and handed it to the clerk who promptly gave him a lottery ticket. He didn’t win anything and he left the store with his head hanging down in defeat.

The poor are the easiest target for the rich! They believe what they are buying can save them from the hardness of life. They believe in the schemes of governments and people who are smart financially and as a result bankruptcy is filling our courts.

Of course the banks and credit card companies are not to blame. People make their own choices. If they can’t handle their money then it’s their fault when they accumulate too much debt. They didn’t have to buy the lottery tickets!

Still people are fooled and deceived easily sometimes from the very people they love. I loaned over fifty thousand dollars to a friend and she never paid me back. That is where the biggest hurt can happen. When the people who say they love you take advantage of you so they can get ahead. It would be different if she took responsibility, and at least tried to pay a little, but she didn’t even try, she just cut me out of her life.

Luke 8:17, “What ever is hidden away will be brought out into the open, and whatever is covered up will be found and brought to light.”

Our world is filled with evil and everything people do to each other will be found out. You cannot cheat and deceive people without coming under the judgment of God. Your deeds will be discovered and uncovered for all people to see.

Matthew 10: 26-28, “So do not be afraid of people. What ever is now covered up will be uncovered, and every secret will be made known. What I am telling you in the dark you must repeat in broad daylight, and what you have heard in private you must announce from the housetops. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather be afraid of God, who can destroy both body and soul in hell.”

Money is the root of all evil for those who take advantage of people who are good. Money is evil when it is put into the hands of those who don’t care about anyone other than themselves. Be ashamed creditors, bankers and even friends who think they can take whatever they want from those who are not as financially wise.

I have learned a lot and I pass on what I learn in hope that good people will not do evil. I pray if you are a person who works in a financial institute that you will explain clearly to all who borrow money. I pray to all friends who barrow without believing that it isn’t necessary to pay it back that you listen and take heed that God is watching and He will repay those who think they got their money free and clear!
